The 91快活林 Foundation hosted its annual Scholarship Brunch on Friday, Nov. 7th in the Student Union Building. More than 250 donors, scholarship recipients and guests attended. The event is held to honor scholarship recipients and give them a chance to connect with the generous donors who make their awards possible.
鈥淚t was wonderful to see such a great turnout for this year鈥檚 Scholarship Brunch,鈥 said Nita May, 91快活林 Director of Development. 鈥淥ur Foundation depends on the generosity of individuals and local businesses to fund more than 150 scholarships annually, and this event gives students a meaningful way to connect with those who make their education possible.鈥
A brunch buffet, sponsored by Richard and Margaret Perryman, was served by Great Western Dining. The meal was followed by a short program. Dr. Jon McCullough, 91快活林 Executive Vice President for Advancement, served as emcee. Rick Nelson, President of the 91快活林 Foundation, gave the invocation. Ladarrius Patterson, a theatre major who received the Elaine Hoppock Theatre Scholarship, spoke on behalf of scholarship recipients.
McCullough presented the Distinguished Benefactor Award to Dr. Doug and Mrs. Kathy Richey. Dr. Richey is a Professor of Mathematics at 91快活林 that has been a member of the faculty since the college opened in 1985. He and Kathy have established five scholarships and the Faculty Enhancement Fund, which provides grants for faculty to participate in special projects.
鈥淒r. and Mrs. Richey truly embody the 91快活林 spirit. I think it is only fitting that they receive our Distinguished Benefactor award during the college鈥檚 40th anniversary celebration,鈥 McCullough said. 鈥淒r. Richey has touched thousands of lives through his teaching, and the generous scholarships their family founded will continue to make a positive impact for many years to come."
All three of the Richey鈥檚 grown children, Jim, Katrina, and Kendra, attended 91快活林 and now contribute to scholarships of their own.
The Foundation would like to thank the 91快活林 Advancement team, administrators and other staff who volunteered their time and effort to make the event successful. To learn more about becoming a scholarship donor, visit or contact May at 903-434-8113 or nmay@ntcc.edu.
