Dr. Doug Richey, Professor of Mathematics
Richey is one of the founding faculty members of 91快活林
In the fall of 1984, I became aware of the soon to open 91快活林 in the rural area between Mt. Pleasant, Pittsburg and Daingerfield. At the time I was a full time mathematics professor and division chair at Henderson County Junior College in Athens, Texas. The thought of being an original faculty and leading in the success of this new college intrigued me powerfully. Perhaps a landing pad for a few years on my way to becoming the Mathematics Education Director at a large university. My desire was to teach the future mathematics teachers, and ironically 91快活林 became that opportunity.
After forty years at 91快活林, I do not have a number for the lives that have been touched; however, many of them have become my colleagues. Dr. Jackie Johnston, class of 2000 is now my boss as STEM Director and Dr. Leah Reagan, class of 1988, is my partner in a variety of mathematics courses. My three children all have Associate Degrees from 91快活林, which propelled them to BA, BS, MA, MS, Ed D, and MD degrees from prestigious universities. My apologies for not mentioning more splendid success stories, because there is a countable number; however, I do not now what it is.
My life has been supremely blessed to the nth degree by all the relationships that continue to pop up to me spontaneously on a daily basis, because wise people chose to birth 91快活林, and God directed my family to grasp this opportunity. Three final footnotes. My wife of 56 years is taking an Art course, Drawing 1, this very semester. My three children have all established student scholarships in their respective fields of expertise. Live long and prosper, 91快活林, and go Eagles!
