The Whatley Center for the Performing Arts has saved you a seat! 91快活林 is pleased to announce that the Whatley Center is planning a full season of entertainment for 2021-2022. Tickets are now on sale at for all shows.
91快活林 will be closed on Monday, Sept. 6 in observation of Labor Day. Offices will reopen and classes will resume their regular schedules on Tuesday, Sept. 7. We hope everyone enjoys the long weekend and celebrates safely. In case of an emergency on campus during the closure, please contact security at 903-434-8127.
As we approach our 3rd week of the Fall semester, the SGA team is gearing up to execute a successful Backyard Bash Thursday, September 9, 2021, at 6 pm. The purpose of this event is to encourage unity on campus through a fun-filled picnic-style event. Throughout this event, the SGA team will have everyone check-in at the entrance gates, get their free wing baskets (first 60 people) and their hamburger baskets. After the guests have gotten comfortable in their seats, the SGA team will be announced, athletic coaches will share insights on their teams and we will hear a word from Dr. Clinton.
The 91快活林 Foundation recently received a $100,000 anonymous donation to support the Work4College Program. Pictured accepting the gift (from left) is Dr. Ron Clinton, 91快活林 President, Mason May, Director of the Work4College Program, and Dr. Jonathan McCullough, Executive Vice President for Advancement. The funds will be used to cover student scholarships and operating costs for 91快活林鈥檚 unique summer work program. In 2021, the program鈥檚 eighth year, more than 80 students completed over 12,000 hours of work on campus and at participating local schools. John Gregory Rodriguez, of Mount Pleasant, has become the 2021 Texas Heritage National Bank (THNB) Scholar of 91快活林. This $4,000 scholarship goes to a top Presidential Scholar of the 91快活林 Honors Program. Rodriguez, will inherit this prestigious designation from other previous vanguard students of 91快活林 such as Jordan Whelchel, who went on to Rice University; and Emmalea Shaw, now working on her doctorate in physical therapy at the North Texas State medical campus in Fort Worth.
The 91快活林 baseball team hit the field this past week to start fall baseball practices and wasted no time in getting involved in the community. The City of Mount Pleasant held a Cinco de Mayo festival downtown on Saturday, August 28th since the original festival was canceled in the spring due to COVID restrictions.
91快活林 is pleased to announce that the Human Resources staff has been nominated for the final Summer Shout Out of 2021. Amy Adkins, Melissa Dickeson, Maria Gonzalez and Mario Razo work hard to do payroll, manage employee benefits and so much more.
91快活林 Presidential Scholar, Aaliyah Avellaneda, has won the fourth Dr. Jerry Wesson Scholarship, for academic excellence in honors. This year the award increased from $500 to $750. This honor was established in 2018 by Scott Wesson, a Senior Vice President of UDR, an owner of 50,000 exclusive apartment units throughout the United States. The award commemorates his father-- long-term 91快活林 Vice President, and supporter, Dr. Jerry Wesson.
The 91快活林 EatBetter4Less program and History Departments will co-host 鈥淭he Journey from African Medicine to Soul Food & Food Tasting鈥 with guest speaker Chef Kami Redd on Monday, Sept. 20 at 12:30 p.m. in Humanities 101 (community room). Redd is an herbalist, nutritionist and author who will take participants on a culinary journey from traditional African medicine to comforting African-American Soul Food. She will also explain how comfort can be utilized for healing. The event is free to attend.
The 91快活林 Soccer teams hosted Blinn Junior College on Saturday in the 2021 Conference opener. The 91快活林 Women would start the season off with a 2-1 victory over the Buccaneers, while the Men鈥檚 team from 91快活林 eared a 1-0 victory over Blinn.
