Cassia Rose wins 91快活林 McGraw-Hill Poster Contest

91快活林 held its ninth鈥燼nnual McGraw-Hill Poster contest Friday, April 29. The event was held in the foyer of the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts and featured research by 20 of 91快活林?s most decorated scholars. The contest has become an annual test of creative research in Northeast Texas, funded in part by the McGraw-Hill Corporation, and judged by friends of the college, and Honors Northeast.

? Work on the underground pipe loop is finishing up behind the IT and BT buildings

? Continue to use caution in the area between BT and IT

? A walking path is now cleared between IT and the Whatley Center

? A temporary sidewalk is being placed behind the Admin building in anticipation of upcoming renovations


? Work will be moving inside several buildings very soon

91快活林 receives gift to restore John Biggers mural

The 91快活林 Foundation recently received a $10,000 gift from the East Texas Communities Foundation and the Burt and Nancy Marans Estate. Dr. Brad Johnson, 91快活林 President (right) and Dr. Jonathan McCullough, 91快活林 Vice President for Advancement, are pictured receiving the donation. 鈥燭he funds will be used to begin the restoration process for the Dr. John Biggers mural that will be relocated from Pewitt Elementary School to the 91快活林 Charlie and Helen Hampton Learning Resource Center.

Dr. Tawny Nix gives scholarships

Dr. Tawny Nix, Director of the 91快活林 Medical Assistant program, recently contributed $2,000 to the 91快活林 Foundation. The funds will provide scholarships to students majoring in Medical Assistant, Medical Coding or Health Informatics. She is pictured presenting the gift to Dr. Jonathan McCullough, 91快活林 Vice President for Advancement. The Eagle student newspaper wins big at TIPA

91快活林?s newspaper, The Eagle, once again took home more than 20 awards from the annual Texas Intercollegiate Press Association (TIPA) conference.

Last鈥爉onth, the journalism staff traveled to Dallas to represent The Eagle and the college?s literary magazine, Lagniappe.

This year, the journalism staff won a total of 22 awards including seven first place awards, a number of second and third place awards as well as honorable mentions in several other categories and two award

SGA recognizes outstanding student organizations

The 91快活林 Student Government Association (SGA) recently recognized two student organizations on campus. The Phi Theta Kappa Alpha Mu Chi chapter was awarded Outstanding Student Organization for the 2015-2016 school year. To be eligible for this award an organization must exhibit how it has contributed to the college, community, and the development of its members.Rico Willis, Director of Student Activities and Multicultural Affairs, is pictured presenting the award to the鈥燗lpha Mu Chi Chapter.

Spring commencement planned for May 14

91快活林 will hold its spring commencement in two ceremonies at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. in the Whatley Center Saturday, May 14. Dr. Kim Wommack will be the speaker at both events.

The鈥9 a.m. ceremony is for Associate of Arts, Associate of Arts in Teaching and Associate of Science graduates. Mary Smith of Gilmer will give the student response at this ceremony.

The鈥11 a.m. ceremony is for Associate of Applied Science and Certificate of Competency graduates.
